NATIVE ANIMALS

A number of animals live within the alpine environment here at Mt Buller. Occasionally these animals venture inside lodges for warmth and in search of food. The most common animals that are found inside lodges are Dusky Antechinus (Antechinus swainsonii) and Bush Rats (Rattus fuscipes). Both are native to the area and are extremely common animals in the sub-alpine areas of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling. Mountain Pygmy-possums (Burramys parvus) have also been found in lodges in the past, but due to their rarity they are not commonly found within apartments or lodges on Mt Buller during Summer.

It is against the law to kill native animals. Live trapping is preferred; AMS Mt Buller have live traps. Please contact us if you require assistance or The Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Alpine Resort Management Board can assist you on 03 5777 6077.

MOTHS

During the Summer months at Mt Buller we experience migration of Bogong Moths to the region.  They are a valuable food source for birds & native animals. It is quite common for these moths to find their way through small gaps, vents, windows and doors.  To prevent this, please leave doors and windows closed in the evenings and if possible close blinds/drapes whilst interior lights are on.
