Every February, Mount Buller transforms from a snow-covered ski haven into the beating heart of one of Australia’s most meaningful endurance events — the Oscars100 Hut 2 Hut. More than a race, this alpine weekend blends adventure, community, and compassion — raising funds and awareness for children with autism and their families.
Origins & Purpose
The Hut 2 Hut Challenge is the flagship event of Oscars100 Inc., a Victorian-based charitable organisation founded in 2014.
Its story began when the founder’s son, Oscar, was diagnosed with autism in 2011. The family’s experience highlighted the power of early intervention and community support — and sparked a mission to ensure more families could access the help they needed.
Today, Oscars100 raises awareness, builds community, and funds vital programs supporting children on the autism spectrum.
The Hut 2 Hut event embodies that mission. Participants take on gruelling alpine trails — a physical metaphor for the resilience and determination families show every day. As one event guide put it, it’s like “an Oxfam Trailwalker gone wild.”
The 2026 Event at Mount Buller 20–22 February 2026
Mount Buller Alpine Village, Victoria
Event Options
- Oscars100 (100 km) — the full alpine loop and the event’s centrepiece
- Archie 50 (50 km) — a demanding yet achievable challenge
- Bella 10 (10 km) — a scenic short course ideal for families and newcomers
The Course
Starting and finishing in the Mount Buller Village Square, the 100 km route climbs and descends roughly 5,700–6,000 metres across the high country.
Runners summit Mt Buller, plunge down the Four Mile Spur, cross rivers, traverse ridgelines, and pass by historic high-country huts — from Lovicks Hut to Gantner Hut.
The name “Hut 2 Hut” celebrates this link to alpine heritage, connecting participants to a tradition of hut-to-hut trekking that defines the Victorian Alps.
What Makes It Special
Hut 2 Hut isn’t just another ultra. It’s one of the toughest trail challenges in Australia — blending endurance running with back-country trekking.
But it’s also about heart. Every participant, volunteer, and supporter plays a part in raising funds and awareness for autism support services.
As the event has evolved since its beginnings in 2017, it has raised over $350,000 for children’s services — and introduced new options like the 50 km and 10 km events, plus a Team Relay (teams of three) for the 2026 edition.
Why Mount Buller?
Mount Buller is the perfect host: accessible yet wild, dramatic yet welcoming.
In summer, its alpine ridges and valleys become a playground for trail runners and hikers. With an elevation of 1,805 m, the terrain offers steep climbs, panoramic ridgelines, and challenging technical trails — all within reach of accommodation, safety crews, and village amenities.
Spectators and families can stay in the village, explore the mountain, and share in the energy of the weekend.
The Weekend Experience
Thursday: Arrival, registration, and mandatory gear checks (a strict alpine requirement).
Friday: Early start for the 100 km participants — up the summit, across valleys, through rivers and huts.
Saturday & Sunday: Other events kick off, checkpoints come alive, and the finish line fills with emotion, cheers, and stories of endurance.
Whether you’re tackling the full 100 km, hiking the 50 km, or enjoying the family-friendly 10 km, the weekend has something for everyone.
The celebration back in the village — surrounded by mountain air, community spirit, and the shared purpose of giving back — is unforgettable.
Why It Matters
Beyond the kilometres and climbs, the Hut 2 Hut weekend changes lives.
Funds raised go toward early intervention and autism support through partners like Irabina Autism Services and Mansfield Autism Statewide Services.
For families navigating the challenges of autism, the metaphor is clear: life’s path can be steep, but with the right support, every summit is achievable.
The event also strengthens the Mount Buller community — connecting local businesses, volunteers, and participants in a shared mission that extends far beyond the trails.

Final Thoughts
The Oscars100 Hut 2 Hut 2026 isn’t just a race — it’s a journey through the mountains, through community, and through purpose. Whether you’re pushing through 100 km of alpine terrain, volunteering at a checkpoint, or cheering from the sidelines, you’re part of something bigger: a movement where endurance meets empathy. In the end, it’s not just about reaching the summit — it’s about walking together, hut to hut, towards a better future.
