Meet Ash: Mt Buller’s Magic-Maker, Hospitality Hero & Pizza Night Queen
If you’ve ever booked a stay through AMS Mt Buller, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Ash — whether in person, over the phone, or seen her zipping past with a coffee in hand and a mission on her mind. She’s the glue that keeps the mountain running smoothly — solving problems before they happen, helping guests feel at home, and somehow still managing to make time for a chat and a laugh.
From Bookings to Big Fixes — She Does It All
Ash’s job title might mention “operations,” but her real role is more like mountain magician. From coordinating staff and managing bookings to helping out with last-minute maintenance and making sure everything looks perfect for arriving guests, Ash does it all — usually before lunch.
“I just do whatever needs to be done,” she says with a shrug. “No two days are the same — and that’s exactly how I like it.”
Her calm, can-do attitude and deep knowledge of the mountain mean she’s often the first person staff call when something goes sideways — and the first one guests thank when everything goes just right.
High Country Roots & Horse Trails
Ash discovered her love for horses as a teenager, and it led her to work with McCormack’s Mountain Valley Trail Ride — one of the High Country’s most iconic riding experiences. “Working with McCormack’s was the dream job back then,” she says. “Riding through the bush, meeting people from everywhere, and sharing the beauty of the High Country — it was special.”
These days, she doesn’t have her own horses, but still lends a hand with the rides now and then when time allows. “It’s my happy place,” she says. “Getting back in the saddle, even just occasionally, reminds me why I fell in love with the bush in the first place.”
“Riding clears my head,” she says. “There’s nothing like it — the quiet, the rhythm, the views. It’s the kind of freedom you can’t get anywhere else.”
The Magic of Mt Buller Nights
Ask Ash what makes Mt Buller truly special, and she doesn’t hesitate. “There’s just something about the mountain at night,” she says. “It’s a whole different kind of magic. The snow softens everything, the village lights twinkle like fairy dust, and there’s this quiet buzz in the air — like everyone’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
Even after all these years, Ash still gets caught up in the atmosphere. Whether it’s the crunch of fresh snow underfoot or the sound of laughter echoing from the pubs and lodges, Mt Buller after dark has a way of working its charm.
One of her favourite ways to enjoy it is with her kids in tow. Most nights off, you’ll find them at the Magical Mountains show at Alpine Retreat — wide-eyed under the lights, soaking up the colour and storytelling that lights up the snow. “It never gets old,” Ash says. “It’s something really special to share with my kids.” And no evening would be complete without a stop at Uncle Pat’s for pizza — a tradition as comforting as it is delicious. “There’s just something about walking into that warm little spot after being out in the snow — everyone’s chatting, there’s music, and the pizza never misses,” she says with a smile. “For me, that’s what Mt Buller is all about. Little traditions, big memories, and being surrounded by people who love this place as much as I do.”
Why We Love Her
Ash isn’t just part of the team at AMS Mt Buller — she’s part of the soul of the place. Her warmth, dedication, and love for the mountain community shine through in everything she does. Whether she’s smoothing out a bump in someone’s stay or making a kid’s first snow trip unforgettable, Ash brings heart to hospitality. She is the kind of person who makes Mt Buller feel like more than just a destination — she makes it feel like home. Her warmth, her energy, and her unshakable connection to both the mountain and the wider High Country community are exactly what AMS is all about.
So next time you visit, don’t forget to say hi. You might catch her on the move — coffee in hand, solving a problem, or planning something quietly brilliant behind the scenes.
